Really good ideas! But I just want to point some things out:
Number 1, we already have a desert zone in the game.
Number 2, lower the value of the Char Slime's plort or make the Char Slime more annoying/difficult to ranch. Having an easy slime to ranch and a default plort value that high is way too overpowered.
Number 3, if a forest, or a rain forest, or a jungle burns down, it doesn't immediately turn into a desert. It turns into a barren stretch of land. The only difference is that there are no trees or any other type of vegetation, or animals, or water sources. It's not like a forest is gonna burn down and then sand dunes, pyramids, and sand is just gonna pop out of nowhere.
Number 4, saying that the Char Slime turns into a Charr when it eats any kind of plort makes absolutely no sense. Why would the Char Slime turn into itself? Unless the Charr is supposed to be the sibling of the Tarr.
Number 5, you say that the Smoke Slime poses no serious threat to a rancher, yet the smoke that it produces CAN harm you. Taking damage from a slime is a serious threat. That makes no sense.
Number 6, when you say that you can "bring it back", that means that you're referring to bringing life back to the Ash Desert just like the Glass Desert. I don't think it would be a good idea to have the same mechanic used in multiple zones.
Final thing: I would suggest changing the name of the Ash Desert. How about the Ash Canyons?
Not trying to rain on your parade or anything. These are really cool ideas! They just need some work. That's all.
