Well... It worked the first time!

Postby ImagineBen » Fri Feb 05, 2016 9:51 am

Windows 8.1
Intel i7-4700MQ 2.40GHz
8GB RAM
64-bit
Nvidia Geforce GTX 770m
Sound Blaster Cinema

It worked just fine the first time I ran it! Played for hours!
I'm wondering if I should have left the graphics settings alone though.

The only other thing that changed was steam updated right after I played my first session, and then I couldn't open Slime Rancher up again. It just gives me the unresponsive black screen.

I don't see why I would need to update my graphics and audio drivers, when it worked just fine before...
I'm sending in my log file... Which repeatedly warns about not being able to run a sound file of some sort...
Just wanted to make a thread to track my progress.
I'll start with trying to update my graphics card and audio driver.

Welcome Ben, sorry you're having issues.
Yes I'll bet updating your graphics & audio drivers will solve the issue.
Your adjusted settings are putting additional demands on your system.
Try this before sending in your log and let us know if that resolves your issue.

Both my graphics drivers and audio drivers are up to date.
What's my next step?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling, then restart your computer and launch the game.
This should do it, if not there's one more thing to try.

Let's try deleting your slimerancher.prf file to ensure your settings can be reset entirely. This will also reset any achievements so you know.

This file can be found on windows at: c:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Monomi Park\Slime Rancher\slimerancher.prf

Then, restart ... and launch Slime Rancher.

At every phase, I tried running in normal as well as safe mode.
And, I actually sent the log file in before I did anything else.

What is your screen resolution?
What is the game's screen settings?
Are you playing borderless or fullscreen?
How many monitors do you have set up?
Does your Nvidia 770m have Nvidia Experience? If so have you changed any settings in that program that would affect how Slime Rancher is loaded, handled, displayed. Example: 3D settings?
These answers will be highly helpful.
If none if this is the problem, it's the i7.

Ooook! Well. This made me mess around with my graphics settings in my NVIDIA 3D graphics options. None of the options I messed with worked until I switched to the integrated graphics, and then POOF. It worked. Instantly. W.T.F. I'm curious as to why it worked. What's the best way to go around experimenting with that?

Without knowing the questions above no further information can be provided.

My laptop's resolution is at 1920 x 1080.
I'm currently playing it in a windowed 1680 x 1050. The first time I ran it successfully, it was on fullscreen 1920 x 1080.
I only have one monitor. Occasionally I hook up my laptop to my TV so I can see things on the TV. But all current settings are set up solely for the laptop's screen.
I'm not sure if I have NVIDIA Experience, but I do have a program running all the time to help me mess with 3D options in programs and games. I got it from the NVIDIA website. It's just called NVIDIA Settings as far as I'm aware. However, I did find an install file for a NVIDIA GeForce Experience. Also, I did not modify the 3D settings UNTIL Slime Rancher stopped working.
