I have noticed that:

Chickens do not breed in the overgrowth (did not test grotto)
Chickens disappear in the overgrowth (did not test grotto)
Slimes disappear in the grotto (did not test overgrowth)
Fruit trees to not bear fruit in the overgrowth (did not test grotto)

I have fully upgraded gardens/coops/corrals where applicable.

Did anyone else notice this? It is very frustrating when you have 20+ hungry tabbies.

I've found the same issue in regards to the overgrowth(have only had slimes and trees in there). It seems like a common problem that the grotto also makes things disappear. No slime I kept in there remained after a little while(disappearing after sleeping).

I have found that nothing "interacts" in the grotto if the player isn't close by.
Slimes dont eat, chicken don't breed etc.

Chickens disappearing in the Overgrowth has happened to me before.
