Less Awful Trades

Some of the trades in this game are so ridiculously imbalanced against the player. Why would I give him 12 carrots and 7 prickle pears when I can feed them to my rad-dervish slimes for about 10x the profit I'd get for selling the tabby and fire plorts?
Trades should be much more profitable for the player, and possibly include some more slime science resources. Maybe the player should even be able to request items.
I think there was a suggestion somewhere that players should be able to trade items between themselves.
