How do Gordo Snares work exactly?
Aside from placing the snare and adding the food do they have any further requirements?
I placed a couple snares filled them with food and days pass on and nothing happens.
Do I have to sleep?
Do I have to reach a certain area first?
Do I have to burst the preexisting Gordo first?
What am I missing here?

Okay so I haven't found any other place saying how they work but I'm pretty sure I've got it all figured out.
To get a specific gordo, you need to use the slime's favorite food as bait. You can get any slime gordo, even ones that aren't in the wild.
For the crystal gordo, I tried using its favorite food in the Indigo quarry, and it worked. However, the next time I did it, a pink slime appeared. So it doesn't matter what the locoation is, there's just a chance of it not getting the right slime. I also tried a roostro on my ranch to get the hunter gordo, and as you can see it worked. And for the time, it takes about as long as the extractors. If you sleep until morning the gordo will usually be there when you wake up.
I'm not sure why you wouldn't get a slime even though you have food in it. You only need one item so you might be doing it wrong. You should just need one of any food item. Maybe if you try again you'll be able to get one of these cool guys on your ranch.
And one question for anyone else; is there any way to get a puddle gordo? I plan on testing things to see if I can get one.

puddle gordos don't exist. they only eat water so we'd need a gadget spot in some shallow water or under a waterfall or something.
If you want a Gordo as big as possible before starting to tremble, feed it 21 of any food that isn't its favorite!

Update: So obviously water didn't work as bait.
But I did get a quantum gordo!

You were right. I never went to sleep before.
Well I guess if you become sleep deprived on Far Far Range your dark bags under your eyes scare all Gordos away.
I wonder who will be the first person to cover every building side with a Rad-Gordo.
