Casey - Boy or Girl

Feedback and general discussion of Slime Rancher

Casey - Boy or Girl

Postby lukepkrees » Thu May 04, 2017 12:51 pm

I feel like this is a question that everyone has been asking ever since Casey was released in Starmail.

I know it's not important but I just wanted to know people's opinions on this topic, do you think Casey is a Boy or Girl. Also, maybe one of the developers or story writers can answer this question if possible

It could be either and I'll still be OK with it.

so what? it's important for Casey to have an undefined gender. it avoids any issues with sexism and likely will never be stated one way or another by the devs.

I only see three possible outcomes:
1) If Casey is a boy: 'How dare you not take the chance to represent a relationship outside of the norm.'
2) If Casey is a girl: 'Stop pushing this agenda on us, please. We just want to play the game.'
3) If Casey is a corgi: 'What happend to earth, have corgis taken over? Does this mean Beatrix is also a corgi? Have the devs lied to us on that, trying to obscure Bea's true identity? Are spoons even real. Is this the real live, is this just fantasy?'

So, I'd rather have option 3, because that would be more fun than generating yet another discussion about a fictional character's identity and whether or not it is appropriate for a game with such an age rating.

That said, for those who want to pick one or the other, a sociolinguist might help you (but, do remove the names of Bea and Casey, since that might sway the analysis one way or another). Since the style of the letters might reveal something. (But don't come to me, because my field is historical linguistics :Þ)

Since you creeps are so interested in my personal life, I'll give you one hint.
Casey...

Isn't a corgi, and neither am I, seriously, I don't look like a corgi, and what kind of corgi has blue hair?
Seriously...

Beatrix is just a corgi with abnormally long legs and the ability to stand like a human
Actually i used to have a teacher who dyed her spaniel with patches of blue, so maybe Beatrix is a blue and white spaniel??

But seriously though, I agree with Kalkrona. If Casey is a boy, it would be considered sexist, and if Casey is a girl the adultness (not speaking about LGBT-ness being adult, just the seriousness of the statement don't hurt me plz) might cause uproar.

I'll be honest, I'm in britain and I've never heard any guys called casey over here. they've all been girls. that's why when i saw the name casey i was like YES LGBT GET IN THERE before someone on here mentioned that it's also apparently a guy's name.
tbh i'd be thrilled if casey was a girl, but that's probably because i'm lgbt and like seeing lgbt characters
maybe casey is trans? like genderfluid, hence the multi-gendered name?

Frankly, I don't think it matters.
The fact of them being either doesn't effect the gameplay or lore.
It's kinda like saying the mushrooms in Mario canonically taste like salami.

Wait

You realise it doesn't matter right

Bea is a representation of the player, so Casey is whatever the player wants

As some have mentioned, Casey's gender is deliberately ambiguous since Casey is meant to represent whomever the player (Beatrix) has ever had to leave behind. Even after Casey has a 'voice' in something we're cooking up for the end of adventure mode, the 'voice' isn't canonical. Casey's gender will remain canonically ambiguous.

called it~ and the thought of a "voice" (whatever that means with the quotes) for casey is very interesting!

I don't know who (in Monomi Park team) wrote the letters, but they come off as very feminine to me. I really have no preference either way what gender Casey is, but when I'm reading the letters, it comes across like a woman wrote them.

Casey definitely comes off as a female, I prefer that though tbh. For some reason I get more emotional thinking they are female. That's just me though.
