I believe that in slime rancher there is a sort of evolution in the slimes.
This can first be seen when you examine either the rock or tabby slimes, as those slimes share some resemblances with other slimes e.g Rock - Crystal Tabby - Hunter

I have made an evolution tree of sorts here showing what I believe to be the evolution path of the slimes

Is not really like that, sorta.
Rock and Crystals are a single gender of slimes that evolved for years and decades, golds are just a huge variant of the pink ones, they all have their descendent, but I don't trust the Pink Slime was the one, even I think Quantum Slimes have been there from even centuries.

This does look good, but I would swap the Tabby slime with the hunter (hunter feels like a wild ancestor of the domesticated tabby) and make the gold and quantum slimes descended directly from pink slimes in their own lineages.

Also, Puddles now doesn't look like Pink Slimes, they are just Blue plates.
