Future of the game.

Feedback and general discussion of Slime Rancher

Future of the game.

Postby Fearme » Fri Dec 30, 2016 7:44 pm

I've been wondering, is there going to be a story to the game at all or is it really just a simple game about selling slime poop to earth? I just feel like the game needs more! (Well duh, it's early access)

first, plort production is closer to mitosis (i think that's the word) than a digestive system. they're basically giant cells. second, i don't think i'd like a narrative really, but i think the upcoming ruins area would be a great opportunity to dig into the planet's lore and maybe figure out what happened to Hobson.

Yes.
In 0.5.0 a feature called Letters from Home will be added, which will tell us a bit more about Beatrix, and what she left behind. The Ruins might also do something.

but with the glass desert coming in 0.6 presumably to be the "end-game" zone, i'm really curious as what they plan to do from that point on.

the devs said that the islands would totally not be important to the story, definitely not,
(I think The islands Might be important to the story) I can't remember where I heard it from though but I think it may have been from a update post, here on the forums

well the thing is, those "far far far reaches" don't have that far to be. the world really isn't that big. though that hardly means they can't expand on it.

Slime Rancher Development Roadmap
Postby Nick » Wed Jan 13, 2016 5:16 pm

The following is a broad roadmap of what we expect to develop over the next few content updates. In between these updates there will likely be minor updates, bugfixes and other tweaks.

Please note that the development roadmap is subject to change and does not include everything in development for Slime Rancher. Additionally, the updates listed below may be released in multiple stages.

Quantum Slime
A resident of the Ruins, the quantum slime has difficulties resolving its relationship with reality.

New Resource
A new resource will be added that the quantum slime favors.

Hello Beatrix
We'll finally be making some art that will finally let you put a face to the name. Hint: she's NOT secretly a corgi.

Letters From Home
We’ll learn a bit more about Beatrix, and what she left behind.

Ranch Expansion
A new ranch expansion with additional empty ranch plots will be added.

v0.6.0
The Glass Desert
The Glass Desert acts as Slime Rancher's 'end game' zone and features more explorable space and additional challenges not found in previous zones.

Multiple New Slimes and Resources
New slimes to wrangle, escape, and wrangle again as well as their favorites snacks to collect and grow.
