A simple EvoGame

Postby FishFruit14 » Sun Mar 06, 2016 8:55 am

Hello!

Some of you may have heard of "EvoGames" before. Also called "Evolution Games", EvoGames are a sort of forum-based evolution simulations. The idea is that you start in a small world with 3 simple creatures, and from there, you have to evolve them, sometimes splitting a species into branches, or staying as one, giving them new features that allow them to become the superior species.

But we're not going to do anything that complicated yet. We're simply going to start out with one creature, and no evolution splitting.

Here is our creature. It's name is R.

Image

R is a simple cell consisting of only a cell wall and a nucleus.

This is where R lives:

Image

This is a small section of the planet "Fenzo." It consists of a stream leading into a lake, as well as a small lagoon. Both the lake and lagoon are surrounded mostly by rocky cliffs, save for one part in the south. When R evolves, it may eventually discover more of Fenzo, but for now it is stuck in a lake.

Now, how does one evolve R? It's quite simple. What you would do is decide what R's new evolution will be. Perhaps it will be a flagella, allowing R to swim around the lake faster. Now that we've decided, we put R into our trusty image manipulation program, and draw in the flagella. Now that we're done, we rename it. How about "R-F".

Image

And there it is, R-F in all it's glory. We continue to evolve it this way until we decide we're done. Simple.

Now, about the rules. There aren't many, but they're important.

1) Always save the file as a ".png". It helps the image stay much clearer. Eventually, if we get to a much bigger creature, we may no longer need to, but for now, ".png".

2) Don't devolve someone else's evolution right away. Say someone gives our creature a harmful evolution instead of a helpful one. You CAN devolve it, but wait a little bit first to see how it affects the creature.

3) Nothing innapropriate. Please, people, there's kids on these forums, and it's just not funny.

And finally, I will be making an evolution chart of R's evolutions occasionally. Currently, here is our chart.

Have fun!

I don't think anybody wants to draw.

It takes ~5 minutes max to slightly edit a creature.

Also, look in creative and slime design. Tons of people love drawing.

I added fins or something.

RE-F becomes more streamlined, it's fins and 'tail' helping it to swim through the ocean at rapid paces.

REFF gains a more pointed nose and fins at the end of its tail, aiding in its turning abilities whilst swimming.

(is it possible to make another cell for another environment, or is it possible for REFF-O to eventually sprout legs like a frog?)

REFF-O becomes thicker and grows two more little fins for speed and protection or something like that?

It is quite possible for our species to gain legs. Also, I decided I'd keep it simple for the first EvoGame, and make the next one more complicated.

Edit: I am currently at school. I'll add another evolution once I get home.

I added eyes and a mouth, so now it's REFF-OY. The mouth might be hard to see.

I was able to resist my temptations to call it Jeff.

I love how the whole creature is a single cell with a body surrounding it XD.

But that's what makes the game funny. It doesn't have to make sense.

The much larger REFF-OY may be more adept at finding things to eat, but it can't store enough food in it's body to maintain it for long. The inside of the cell-like creature expands, replacing some of the wall with space for nutrients. It even begins to develop a proto-stomach, allowing it to store nutrients much more efficiently.

This being is called REFFLOY

And here's our current evolution chart! I can't believe how far R has come... I feel like a proud father...

Time to spice it up.

REFFLOY developed a longer and more accurate mouth part for gathering floating bacteria, turning it into REFFLOYK.

However, the primitive eyes aren't the best at aiming and several REFFLOYK nabbed another REFFLOYK. Due to the new found proteins, the unintentionally cannibalistic REFFLOYK became stronger and reproduced faster, causing a mutation in which sharper mandibles were able to extract the protein from other REFFLOYK specimens more efficiently. This leads to the carnivorous and differently hued K-1 Division.

Could this new threat drastically change the R species?

Wait, I'm kind of unclear. Are you splitting the lineage? I was going to try to avoid splits this time around, but ifyou guys want, we can go ahead and split it.

I'm fine with it, as long as it doesn't split too much.

Then I guess we can split it every 5 evolutions or so.

Well it's basic Darwinism. R was doing fine as it was in the beginning. If there's no reason to evolve, it wont.

An evolution of K-1, K-2's mandibles curve outwards, allowing the K-2 to pinch down on the less aggresive members of the R family

That's still a lot.

I was thinking more like every 15-20 evolutions to a maximum of 3 or 4.

I just didn't want to make the game too complicated. I was afraid if I made the rules seem too rigid, or the game too confusing, people wouldn't join, so I made a simpler version to get people hooked first. However, i am fine with splits, as long as they do not happen frequently.

From now on, one must say what their creature evolved from, and if it is or is not a split.

REFFLOYK has gotten tougher skin, represented by the fact that it's slightly darker, making it a bit more resistant to attacks from K and turning it into REFFLOIK.

In response to REFFLOIK getting tougher skin K-2 develops larger and more powerful mandibles to bite through its tougher skin and becomes K-3.
